Manuscript Works

April 12, 2023

10am Pacific / 1pm Eastern

What's covered in this webinar?

This 60-minute webinar will:

  • Walk attendees through the acquisitions process for scholarly books -- that is, how publishers decide whether to put a book under contract
  • Explain how to select appropriate target presses to send your pitch to
  • Offer tips on when and how to approach acquisitions editors
  • Help you decide when you will make your pitch and how many presses you will submit to

There will be a Q&A period after the presentation to address any lingering questions you have.

Who is this workshop for?

This workshop is intended for anyone who would like to publish a book with a university press or other academic publisher. You can be a first-time author or a repeat author who is looking to take more control of the process this time around.

The presentation will not explicitly cover trade publishing or seeking representation from a literary agent, which is not necessary to publish with a university press or other academic publisher. However, I can answer questions about trade publishing during the Q&A if you are trying to decide which path is right for you.

When will the workshop take place?

The workshop will be held live via Zoom on Wednesday, April 12th, 2023 at 10am PDT. Registrants will be provided with a recording and supplementary handouts. You must register in advance even if you don't plan to attend live. You will then get lifetime access to the recording and materials.
