Laura Portwood-Stacer's courses and books have helped thousands of scholarly authors achieve their publishing goals. In this two-hour workshop, you'll learn her time-tested method for writing a book proposal that's sure to grab the attention of acquiring editors at university presses and other scholarly publishers.

Feeling confused or intimidated about the prospect of reaching out to a book publisher?

After attending this workshop, you'll be ready to pitch your project with the confidence that you're giving your book its best shot at winning the approval of acquiring editors and peer reviewers

Show up with a scholarly book project in mind, leave the workshop with:

  • an outline for your winning book proposal

  • an understanding of what scholarly publishers are really looking for in a proposal submission (it's probably not what you think)

  • awareness of the most common misconceptions that hold aspiring authors back

  • concrete tips for making your book proposal stand out from the thousands of submissions scholarly publishers will receive this year, no matter what your field or topic is

This workshop is ideal for scholars at any career stage hoping to publish a book with a university press or other academic publisher. First-time authors are welcome, as are more experienced authors who want to take more control over their publishing experience this time around.

A recording will be provided to all registrants, though you will get the most out of the workshop if you attend live.

The live workshop will last about two hours, with time for participant questions toward the end.

If you've attended a past book proposal workshop with Laura Portwood-Stacer, know that this is a completely updated version. The essential approach will be similar to past workshops and to The Book Proposal Book, but this updated workshop will focus on producing a hands-on outline of a complete book proposal draft, in addition to providing important context and specific suggestions to make your proposal shine.
