Workshop: Clarify Your Book Goals
Live one-hour workshop will be held on March 5, 2025 @ 12:00 pm PT (3:00 pm ET/8:00 pm UTC)
In this one-hour workshop, Laura Portwood-Stacer will share her time-tested tips for clarifying your goals for your scholarly book, whether you're writing your first book or building on past academic publishing experiences in hopes of taking more control over the process this time around.
It's surprisingly easy to get pulled through the process of writing and publishing a scholarly book without taking time to pause and consider what we really want to get out of the experience. It's also common to pile so many expectations on our books and ourselves that we end up blocked by the pressure and unable to move forward. Even successful authors who do publish their books often feel let down by the results and wondering what they could or should have done differently.
At this workshop, you'll learn the wide variety of personal and professional goals people try to meet by publishing scholarly books. You'll have an opportunity to identify your own needs and priorities—and which publishers are best equipped to help you meet your goals—setting yourself up for a more satisfying publishing experience. We'll then discuss the factors that must be accounted for when setting realistic book goals, such as external demands on your time and capacity.
This workshop is about publishing academic books with university presses and other scholarly publishers. If you're not writing a scholarly book or hoping to publish with a scholarly press, this probably isn't the best workshop for you.
